Frequently Asked Questions

Study sessions are one of the main activities that happen daily on the server. In them, we study: between working on school projects, reading up on a textbook, or just working/learning in general. The sessions are meant to help you stay focused and study with a community of other dedicated students! The sessions are open to any member of the server by accessing the #📞study-sessions voice channel. You can join even if there isn't a hosted session going on. You're also welcome to turn your camera on, stream your work, and chat during breaks.

We have a nifty little schedule that you can find here, so check that out!

Of course! As long as it's appropriate for our server rating and you do not stream any non-educational content, like YouTube videos, video games etc.

Yep! For that, use #💬study-chat. It'll open only when you're actually in the #📞study-sessions voice channel though! The #💬study-chat is also a place where you can post your completed star tasks, but do remember that you need to be in the session for at least 30 minutes to be eligible for stars. Since it is still a work, school, and study environment, there is a 30s slow mode. Please keep all general conversations that aren't in the context of the study session in our general chat, #☕the-common-room, or other appropriate channels if deemed so.

We prefer that participants in the main study sessions voice channels remain muted to maintain a focused environment. However, you're welcome to unmute and speak while in the study rooms - just make sure to check with everyone first, as it can be distracting for some.

While you're in the study session, you should focus on your work! To prevent excessive chatting outside of #💬study-chat and study rooms, you won't be able to chat in other channels like #☕the-common-room while in any study session or room. You're welcome to disconnect from the VC if you're taking a break and wish to chat elsewhere!

It is used for multiple purposes - we open it when the 1st channel is full, or for our members with connectivity issues. It has a lower bitrate, so it should work smoother. Just ask a host or a mod to move you there if you're experiencing these issues!

You can, by becoming a Study Session Host on the server! They are volunteers that conduct study sessions and create star tasks for other to complete. To apply, you need to be 16+ and a member for more than a month. To ask about becoming a host, contact hosting managers in a ticket by using the /tickets open "Study Host Inquiry" slash command.

The Dean's List is our method of recognizing some of our hardest-working Studiers through awarding stars to those who have spent the most time in VC or have reached one of our higher roles in the Markbook. The Dean's List recognizes two kinds of our most successful studiers - those who spend the most amount of time studying in VC on a weekly basis and those who have reached the highest tiers of our Markbook system.Due to the Dean's List, we ask all Studiers to disconnect from voice channels on the server if they're taking longer breaks (10 or more minutes) and to only use study voice channels for academic pursuits. For more info, head on over to #🎓the-deans-list.

They are both a place to study with other people on the server, but study rooms are meant to be smaller and more private, with a limit of 6 people per room. You can also claim a study room for yourself and your study buddy/buddies, while study sessions are hosted by volunteer hosts.

Frequently Asked Questions

The Markbook is our ranking system. It is meant to motivate our members and push us to study more often and more consistently! Based on how much you study, you will be assigned different color roles.

Begin submitting your study time in #📋study-files! For all info on the Markbook and how it works, which timers are accepted and which are not, and what to be careful of when submitting, head on over to #📓the-markbook channel and give it a read.

Please remember that the mods who manually update the Markbook are people too. We have our own personal lives as well, being full-time students and working jobs. Nevertheless, we try our best to update at least three times a week! Please be patient and considerate - we're all human here.

We do not allow any apps that are:

  • Web browser timers

  • Your phone's stopwatch

  • Any app/timer that can be easily edited or misused

We have a list of accepted apps that you can find here - the list is not complete, but rather a list of recommendations. If you're unsure whether an app you're using is suitable, please submit it for review through the form linked in the list.

Besides submitting through an app that follows our guidelines, we also do not accept:

  • Multiple timers per day - please only submit once for one day!

  • Two types of timers per day. While you can alternate on different days, please only submit one type of timer per day (eg. Forest on Day 1 and 2, Flora on Day 3).

  • Any timers after the last Markbook reset.

  • Any timers that are more than a month old. We don't mind a few days late, but we won't accept timers that are months late.

  • Submissions that you've made after changing your username and not alerting us! Please let us know when/if you change your username by typing out your previous and new username in #📋study-files.

Yes, as long as it is time at which you actively learn and put the effort in academically. So, if you're just sitting in class scrolling through TikTok, then no, but if you're actively taking notes and listening to the professor, then yes.

We reset the Markbook once every year, usually between the second week of August and the first week of September. Markbook resetting every year brings a fresh aspect to new school years, enables newcomers to the server to have a fresh start as well, and keeps things interesting.

For more info on the Markbook, check out #📓the-markbook channel.

We have cooldowns on certain channels to prevent spam posting, keep mindless chatting down in study sessions, limit the time that commands can be used, and more.

  • #💬study-chat has a cooldown of 30 seconds to maintain a studious environment.

  • #📚the-library has a cooldown of 1 hour to prevent spam.

  • #📖study-buddy-ads has a post cooldown of 1 hour, with a message cooldown of 5 minutes to prevent spam and unproductive, short messages.

  • #❔study-help has a cooldown of 5 minutes to prevent spam.

  • #💡focus-room has a cooldown of 15 seconds to prevent spam.

To do this, you can use a website like Discord Timestamps or Sesh. Just copy and paste into your message, and it will show the time for different members in their own timezone!

We unfortunately can't tell you for certain. While we do have a general usual time for some events (like the Server Birthday, or the Studythons), it is completely based on staff availability and organization. Events take us a lot of time, and we lead our own personal lives as well, which can mean life sometimes gets busy and we cannot organize certain events due to their size or complexity. Your best bet is to turn on notifications for #📢bulletin-board📢 or equip the @Server Events role, and you'll be notified when we're organizing something!

Frequently Asked Questions

Our server generally works in UTC-0! As such, we have a channel at the top that displays the current time in UTC-0, making it easier for you to reference times. But if you need a way to easily convert time zones, we recommend Time and Date or Time.is. There is also the .utc command which you can use to check the current time in UTC-0!

We realize a lot of channels and categories can often be overwhelming and confusing. For this purpose, you can find our server map with short descriptions for each channel at the #🧭campus-map🧭 channel either on the channel list or through the "Server Guide" tab.

For study rooms, you can even ping @Study Rooms to notify others of it! But if you're looking for a long term study buddy, you can check out our #📖study-buddy-ads channel, where you can post your own ad, search through all available ads, and reply to them if you wish!

If they relate to the same topic or at least the general topic you're inquiring about, then of course! But if it relates to a different one, we'd prefer if you make another post. You can put more appropriate tags on each that way too!

Yes! You can use #❔study-help for this, tagging it with "Survey Help".

Yep, as long as they follow the channel's rules. We schedule debate prompts to promote activity within the channel, and you can also suggest your prompt to be scheduled through the form pinned in said channel!

We have a variety of bots used for different purposes. We ask that you generally keep all bot commands to the #🤖bots-play channel, but there are also commands that can only be used in certain channels. Some of the commands that you can use include:

  • To contact mods, you can use the /tickets open [title here] command, or check who is clocked in with /mods.

  • Suggest something with the .suggest [text] command.

  • Check server rules with the .rules command.

  • Check your stars with /stars.

  • Try the Pomodoro method with /pomodoro.

  • Claim a private study room in #💻study-rooms with /claim-a-study-room.

  • Try .motivation in #💌motivation-needed.

  • Post your to-do list with /to-do or your planner wrap up with /planner in #📙the-planner.

  • Use commands like /play for music, .hug [username] to hug a member, .utc to check current time in UTC-0, .systems to view information about systems, .tones to view information about tone tags, .welcome to send a welcoming gif, or .bday [date] [month] to register your birthday.

  • #📙the-planner has a post cooldown of 6 hours, with a message cooldown of 5 minutes to prevent spam, while the /planner command within it can only be used once every 18 hours.
